Having 2 containers that easily separate is disappointing and messy. I don’t think that it is better than the filtered fountains because it requires the same amount of care and maintenance and wastes water. For me, I prefer the filtered fountains. I have to buy filters but I think my cats are better for having them. An extra layer of clean as opposed to this one. I do feel like I wasted alot of money on this one.

I bought two fountains and the ones put in my bedroom, the cats played with all night for a couple of nights and emptied the fresh water tank into the used water tank, but before it could over flow a beep sounded and it did not overflow. I had to get up each time ti empty the full tank to stop the beeping each time. Now I have decided to just leave that fountain empty. It is too much trouble to carry that overly full tank to the sink to empty in the middle of the night. Maybe when the cats are older they will just want to drink out of it. They prefer to drink out of the recycled water fountains.
For the most part, I like the concept. We have 2 cats. We wish for 2 things to be different. 1) for there to be a shorter interval than 6 hours before the water refreshes. 2) for the water available in the tray to drink to have a little more available for that six hour period. Maybe somehow adding some kind of motion sensor so that when the cat comes it adds fresh water. But we love the disposable dirty water and not having the slime and cleaning everything constantly. This kitty fountain woeks well, after I finally figured out how to get it to work. My several emails asking for help went unanswered.. Thed water would drain, but the fresh water wouldn't flow into the drinking dish. I was having to refill the dish manually with bottled water. Since my cats did like drinking the water at that height I persisted, and sent more emails to help@trypurestream.com describing the problem, without any response. Finally I figured out that the pump wasn't properly connected, and fixed it. Now it works well and my cats love it, but it just about made me crazy getting it to work!

Our cats won't use it. They want running water. All of the pictures showed running water but that's only when the tray is filling up
It took awhile to get it but our cats love it
My cat adjusted and was drinking well. However, then came a time that the alarm was beeping in the middle of the night. And later my cat was nearby when the motor activated. It made a whining metallic sound. Since then, he seems scared of the Purestream. I have added a water bowl and see him drinking there more often.
